Marvel Battleworld: Series 2 Traditional in Twilight of Funko Games Review - Gameplay Unquestionably Better, but the repeated characters weigh it
The Funko Battleworld Marvel Franchise is back with a lot of new characters to collect and new mechanics to explore in the 2 Treachery AT Twilight series. Perhaps the most impressive is the great scalability of the game present in Series 2, since the new additions to the game shaken things enough without overwhelming or taking things too far in one direction. Collectibility increases with a group of new combined heroes, although some characters return, which reduces the overall impact of the wave a bit. The main game remains unchanged, but it feels more challenging and, what is more important, more fun with each new element, and it is difficult to call that otherwise than a victory in all areas.
Those who are interested in seeing how the main game is developed can be addressed to our series 1 review, and the good news is that nothing in that basic set of mechanics has changed. That said, there is a way to improve your basic experience, since Funko has launched a pack of premium pieces that converts cardboard danger chips into plastic pieces, as well as its old danger coin in an aluminum foil version. Even Thanostones get a plastic update and become reusable, and to top it off, the $ 8 game comes with my favorite version of GROOT (Spider-Island Groot) in the game so far. This is not necessary at all, but for someone who plays a lot, I would not go back to the cartons now that I have them, since they give the game another touch of dynamism..
However, what should be added absolutely to the mix is the fighter talon, which is sold for $ 15 and comes with the elegant vehicle talon fighter (with full translucent base) and a blank panther 2099 equally elegant. Both immediately give your presentation something of attractiveness, but what stands out is the mechanics that bring with them. In Series 1, fanatics could add Thanos ship to the game, which increased the challenge and gave the heroes another great obstacle on their way. This vehicle balances the balance a bit, but it retains enough random factor so as not to fully tilt the balance back.
The Talon Fighter allows you to give up your attack on that twist and get on the vehicle, no matter where you are on the board. If you enter, you will find two dials to rotate that contain symbols, which correspond to the symbols of the different battles on the board. Once you tours, you choose one of the battles with a matching icon to move, and then loose a From Above tab that dictates whether you hit or not. The benefit of this is that it is not launching a number, so it has a 50% chance of hitting, which is invaluable in some of the highest battle numbers. However, you can smell and add a counter to the danger track, so you should weigh your options before jumping. With some of the highest battle numbers in this whole, this is an invaluable addition and provides a more strategy to consider on a player's turn.
The same goes for the Collector's Tower, which immediately impresses with its striking design and the adorable collector on top. This addition of $ 15 allows you to rotate dials and move platforms while trying to draw a special twilight of your place at the bottom, but the game does not stop if you do not achieve it. Most of the time your die will go on one side, and you will simply play that attack normally. However, if your die leaves ahead, it will allow you to command the basis of the twilight sword (which you attach your character during the rest of the game) and use the twilight die, which contains improved attacks.
Once again, the presence of a dice tower is useful on its own, since it will throw dice on each and every one of the shifts for the most part, and Twilight Die provides another power improvement welcome to help with some of the battles more difficult. That includes the battle of the twilight dragon that is revealed once the sword is claimed, so you get a little bit of all when you end up adding this particular expansion to the game. It is not mandatory in any way, but it is worth looking for it if you want to make the most of the experience.
That takes us to the new wave of heroes to collect, and although there are some incredible additions to the lineup, this wave simply did not reach the high bar of the first wave. You will love the outstanding ones like Capwolf, Lady Octopus, Ghost-Spider-Wanda Maximoff, Hulk 2099, Hobgoblin and Ghost Rider 2099, and twilight variants look fantastic. Unfortunately, there are many retreading in this wave, and I say it not in terms of reusing a sculpture, but more in terms of choice of characters. This wave presents several characters from Series 1, including Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Spider-Ham, Throg and Groot, and four of them are also included in twilight variants.
Now, sculptures are more detailed and present more cinematographic poses this time, so they have been updated and improved, but only this wave already includes three Groots, and one of them seems quite similar to the latest version. The same with Spider-Ham and Spider-Man 2099, which comes in two different costume colors but is essentially the same figure, and honestly, you could also say the same about Agent Venom. However, to give credit where it is due, the new throg is much better, as well as the new Marvel Captain, so in those cases I think it was worth it.
Marvel Battleworld: Series 2 Treachery AT Twilight offers new game additions that make the game undoubtedly better and more exciting, but it is overwhelmed by a wave of characters that feels bored due to the amount of repeated characters and sculptures included. However, there is a lot to love here, so if you are already involved in the Marvel's Battleworld franchise, you will not feel disappointed with what Serie 2 contributes to experience.
