Disco Elysium: Fan ports the RPG hit for the Game Boy
With Disco Elysium, developer ZA / around 2019 has landed a real surprise hit. The role-playing game of the old school was loved both by critics and the players and secured a brilliant rating of 91 points on Metairie. After success on the PC followed ports for the Nintendo Switch, the PS4 and the Xbox One — but before the game has appeared for a platform that probably has not expected: the Nintendo Game Boy.

Even on the small handheld console from 1989, the game can now be enjoyed — at least partially. The fan project of the UI designer Colin Brennan has so far only includes the game entry, but tries to maintain the most important game elements of the original.
On his blog, Brennan explains how he structured the Game Boy implementation, and gives an insight into the individual phases of development. Some screenshots give you a first impression of the game-boy version of the RPG:

Free Game Boy Port also works on PC & mobile phone
The result is Brennan as free download on the platform itch.Io. Users can play the game either directly via the browser on the phone or the PC, but also download the ROM and to run in a corresponding emulator.

However, what makes the port so special: it does not just look like a game that could run on the Game Boy, but can actually be played on the original Nintendo hardware. The ROM only needs to be installed on a flushable cartridge for the handheld — then the crazy nostalgia trip of the extra class is nothing in the way.
